May 19, 2013

We found out more about the pups and testing this week. The pictures below are screenshots from videos of puppies herding ducklings.

Rusty is still available. He is a good natured guy, calm; he moved the ducks several times. He may be top dog in the litter, but doesn't push it. He has some prey drive, as does most of the litter, and showed an intelligent concern about loud noise, but no fear. He carries the Jarratt seal color and would be my pick of the three males because of his friendly, calm nature. I didn't realize how fast he is until I tried to get a screenshot. His quick moves are hard to catch.

Dash is going to Tennesee.

Percy is pending a decision. He turns out to be the one in the litter that responds very differently to a stranger than to his owner. He was enthusiastic with the ducklings and moved them around a little.

Emily is pending a decision. She is the dominant female in the litter, very confident; she will need a strong leader. She also is potentially a good worker, not disturbed by loud noises. She shows the prey drive that most of the litter has, but did not show much interest in the ducklings, beyond nosing them gently.

Lady is going to Texas. She was happy to move the ducks a couple of times.

Annie is available. She is a confident, friendly dog. She has some prey drive, and she showed more interest in retrieving than most of the litter. She is a cheerful, playful girl. She nosed and nibbled the ducks a little, and moved them around a bit. The ducklings did not seem alarmed by her bounciness.

Molly is going to NY. She was the one that showed the most interest in herding, and she may have some opportunity to use that in her new home, as her family has dairy cows.

And Daisy is staying here with us. She takes her time and thinks things over before entering into anything. She loves to play in water and tends to sleep beside or in the water dish.
